The sugarcane industry represents an important segment of Brazil's economy. Brazil is the largest producer of sugarcane and a world leader in the production of sugar and ethanol. More than half of the sugar traded in the world comes from Brazil.

The benefits that TK47 and Super Greensand offer to sugarcane cultures are:

  • Increases the availability of phosphorus in the soil
  • Optimizes management: allows potassium to be applied in pre-planting and eliminates fertilizer re-application
  • In case of drought and loss of crop, the potassium remains in the soil for the next crop
  • Increases crops' resistance against pests and diseases
  • Has no salt effect nor chlorine content
  • Improves cellular structure of the plant
  • Benefits the process of photosynthesis
  • Reduces plant transpiration rate thus reducing water loss
  • Reduces the impact of drought, heat, cold, soil salinity and heavy metal toxicity
  • Contains the elements sulfur, phosphorus, manganese, zinc, copper and cobalt in small amounts

In addition to all the benefits mentioned above, TK47 offers even more advantages for sugarcane cultivation:

  • Increases the productivity of sugarcane
  • Increases the concentration of sugar in the plant
  • Corrects soils pH without releasing CO2
  • Releases potassium in a controlled manner according to the needs of the plant

Results of TK47 on Sugarcane Crops

A field study conducted by the Federal University of Uberlândia (UFU), in a large sugarcane mill in Minas Gerais, showed that by applying TK47, the productivity of sugarcane and sugar concentration significantly increased. In the first growing cycle, in which 50kg/ha of K2O from TK47 was applied, the productivity of sugarcane was 135.7t/ha versus 132.5t/ha when 100kg/ha of K2O from KCl was applied twice. Therefore, TK47 increased productivity using half the required amount of K2O. Furthermore, fertilizer was re-applied to the area that received KCl, whereas no additional product was applied to the area that received TK47.

In another test, an equal dosage of K2O, 100kg/ha, from both TK47 and KCl was applied. An additional 120kg of K20 was applied to the KCl treated area. The results showed sugar concentration (pol) increased by 7.27% when using TK47. Thus, a higher sugar concentration can be achieved using less than half of the product.

Results from a study, conducted by the Federal University of Uberlândia (UFU) showed that the concentration of nutrients in the soil and the soils pH level both increased in the first growing cycle of sugarcane cultivation when TK47 was applied. Two sources of potassium were applied; 150kg/ha of K2O from each, TK47 and KCl.  Results showed that TK47 increased the nutrient concentration in soil more than KCl, confirming TK47’s residual effect.

Treatment with TK47 showed the soil having a neutral pH level after the first sugarcane growing cycle.
